Four senior leaders elected for a five-year term
(VEN) - After the success of the 13th National Party Congress, the 14th National Assembly of Vietnam (2016-2021) held its final session. One of its important missions is to elect new country leaders, whose three key positions are: State President, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the National Assembly.
As planned, the election of the 15th National Assembly (2021-2026) of Vietnam will take place on May 23, 2021, when the new leaders of the country mentioned above will be confirmed to their positions by the 15th National Assembly. Over the next five years, Vietnam's four main leaders, or the “four pillars”, will be highly regarded people in promoting the development of the country.
Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong holds the post of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. During his last two terms in this post, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong has proven to be a leader with great international prestige and the confidence of the people. The Vietnamese believe that he will be able to help their country to develop further, in particular through his policy and his drastic action against corruption.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue
The Chairman of the National Assembly is Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue, a leader who comes from the scientific community and the financial sector. He has held many important positions such as Minister of Finance, Deputy Prime Minister and more recently, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hanoi. He received a vote of absolute confidence for the post of Chairman of the National Assembly, which testifies to the confidence of the members of the National Assembly for him in this new role.
State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc was elected as State President of Vietnam after a very successful term as Prime Minister. It has left a big footprint internationally by enabling Vietnam to successfully achieve the twin goals of successful control of the Covid-19 epidemic and economic development. At the same time, under his tenure as Prime Minister, Vietnam successfully fulfilled its role as President of ASEAN in 2020.
In addition, he said Vietnam was elected by the members of the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member of the said Council for the term 2020-2021 with an almost absolute number of votes (192 out of 193 members). Therefore, even if he is too old according to the electoral regulations, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc remains trustworthy and has been elected as State President of Vietnam, this is also a special case.
Government Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh
Mr. Pham Minh Chinh was elected as Prime Minister of Vietnam. Vietnamese leaders are primarily concerned with finding someone capable of leading the country to achieve a very ambitious strategy: by 2030, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Communist Party, the Vietnam will have to become a developed country with a modern industry and a high average income; by 2045, on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the state, Vietnam is expected to become a developed, high-middle-income country.
According to political observers, Mr. Pham Minh Chinh was very successful in his tenure as Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Quang Ninh from 2011 to 2016, a province with a strong lead in the development of tourism with the famous bay of Ha Long. Domestic and foreign investors are all impressed by his vision, his action and his decisive character in the development of strategies and the promotion of investment projects in this province.
He was elected a Politburo member at the XII National Party Congress in 2016, he was also the Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission. He continues to reap successes in the task of consolidating the staff, strengthening the supervision and control of power and fighting corruption within the Party and the political system. With extensive experience and achievements at local and central level, he was chosen as Prime Minister to continue to promote and achieve the goal: that Vietnam will become a developed country in the region and the world.
In recent years, Vietnam has had many successes in terms of economic development and strengthening the country's role and position on the international stage. However, in order to continue to create new engines of growth, especially in this time of fierce competition between major countries and the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, Vietnamese leaders must have new policies to exploit the potential of the country and to take full advantage of the "golden demographic structure" (the number of people of working age has doubled the number of dependents) of a country of 100 million people.
