Communications services revenue hits $5.8bln
Telecommunications sector contributed nearly $2 billion to the State budget last year.
Revenue from communications services in 2022 hit VND138 trillion ($5.8 billion), a year-on-year increase of 1.6 per cent, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The telecommunications sector contributed nearly VND48 trillion ($2 billion) to the State budget, up 9.8 per cent compared to 2021.
After-tax profit was estimated at VND44.5 trillion ($1.86 billion), jumping 3.8 per cent against the previous year.
However, many analysts warned that telecommunications enterprises should change their business direction and focus on developing digital services if they want to continue to grow in 2023.
Director General of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), Huynh Quang Liem, said ICT businesses have witnessed the strong development of data and digital services but turnover from traditional services such as calls and SMS are falling.
Nguyen Truong Giang, Director General of VNPT Vinaphone, said tackling difficulties in the mobile telecommunications market needs comprehensive solutions, from creating an environment for the development of digital services to rapidly developing the Internet of Things (IoT) market.
